Glutamine synthetase expression in the brain during experimental acute liver failure (immunohistochemical study)

The aim of the study was to determine immunohistochemical level glutamine synthetase (GS) expression in different brain regions conditions experimental acute liver failure rats.
 Materials and methods. conducted Wistar rats: 5 sham (control) animals 10 rats with acetaminophen induced model (AILF). GS sensorimotor cortex, white matter, hippocampus, thalamus, caudate nucleus/putamen carried out period 12-24 h after treatment.
 Results. Beginning from 6th hour treatment all AILF-animals showed progressive increase clinical signs disfunction finished 6 by comatose state up 24 - they constituted subgroup AILF-B, “non-survived”. 4 survived until AILF-A, “survived”. In AILF-B group, starting 16 hours treatment, a significant (relative control) regionally-specific dynamic observed brain: cortex – 307.33 %, thalamus 249.47%, hippocampus 245.53%, subcortical matter 126.08%, 12th nucleus/putamen, 191.66 %; most substantive elevation cortex: 4.07 times.
 Conclusion. Starting 16th (from region) h, it is reliable compared control protein rat among other regions. heterogeneity degree rising potentially may indicate more permeable for ammonia and/or systemic toxic factors as well heterogeneous sensitivity deleterious agents AILF. Subsequently, revealed diversity reflects specificity reactive response local astroglia condition AILF-encephalopathy during specific time-period. associated impairment animal state, indicates involvement increased levels mechanisms hepatic encephalopathy.
